German scientists from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology have developed a new type of LED. They consume less energy, produce less heat and are softer on the eyes, so they are great for street lamps.

A few years ago began the process of modernizing street lamps lighting our cities at night. So far used sodium lamps have replaced LEDs that give brighter light and consume less energy.

Unfortunately, they also have a lot of flaws. LEDs require effective cooling to prevent damage, and in addition they give very sharp light, which not everyone responds. Besides, the way of connecting the diodes makes that if one of them refuses to obey, then the whole lamp is for replacement. Not to mention that they require a higher voltage (120 V), and up to a maximum of 40 LEDs in such a lamp.

However, scientists from the German Institute of Technology Karlsruhe (KIT) have created completely new modules of diodes, which consume significantly less energy, are better for the eyes and much cooler and thus safer.

Engineers from KIT have developed a new method of connecting the diodes, thanks to which one blow will allow the lamp to continue to function. In this way, the number of LEDs in a single lamp can be as high as 144, with a minimum voltage of 20 volts for operation. Low voltage LEDs are also much cheaper, so even though there are more lamps in the lamp, the price should not change much. Relative to the standard.

Scientists have also succeeded in developing a cheaper and more efficient method of heat dissipation from LEDs, which extends their service life.
